It shall be the policy of the Hartford Police Department to allow:
Community members who are interested in broadening their knowledge of the police function within the Town to participate in a ride-along. This would include members of:
Citizens’ police academy participants
College students who are interested in the law enforcement field
Any other person authorized by the Chief of Police or his/her designee
Media representatives who wish to conduct a ride-along for purposes of developing a news story or other documentary may participate.
Members of an authorized Explorer Post, chartered by the Boy Scouts of America to participate in a ride-along authorized by the Chief of Police or his/her designee with an appropriately executed release by the explorer (if 18 or over) or by a parent.
Participants must be 16 years or older unless otherwise authorized by the Chief of Police or his/her designee. Application review will include a local check within the department's record management system. Any applicant who has a felony record or a misdemeanor record that involves moral turpitude or dishonesty shall be excluded from participation in this program. Participants shall only be allowed to participate in this program once every 6 months unless given written authorization by the Chief of Police or his/her designee.
