Listers are unique to Vermont. They are elected officials who are responsible for the valuation of real property values in town. One Lister is elected each year to serve a three year term. Due to the size of the town, Hartford also has a full time Assessor, who assists the Board of Listers and oversees the daily operation of the office.

HURRICANE IRENE DAMAGE
Those residents with properties that have been severely damaged by flooding may apply to the Board of Abatement for property tax relief. This Board meets in December and may abate taxes on a property that has been damaged or destroyed after April 1. Requests for an abatement hearing should be mailed to Beth Hill, in the Town Clerk's office (802-295-2785). Note that documentation and photos will be an important part of this process.
If your property is not repaired by April1, 2012, you may call the Listers' Office and request an inspection on or about that date. We can then make any necessary adjustments to the assessment for next year's tax bill.
Please call our office if you have any additional questions.
