White River Junction continues its amazing revitalization - thanks to the efforts of many dedicated and creative folks.
One prominent feature of the “downtown” is the Bridge Street underpass accessing the core of the old village. This structure has seen rapidly increasing deterioration in recent years and has now become an impediment to traffic and a considerable eye sore. The Town has been working with the State’s Agency of Transportation to complete design work to renovate/replace the existing structure.
Once renovated, the new underpass will allow for the passage of slightly wider and higher vehicles, improved lighting and drainage and a new sidewalk. The abutting walls will remain in their present location due to historic preservation requirements, but should present new landscaping opportunities dramatically improving the appearance of the structure.
We are hoping that this facility will be ready for construction in the summer of 2010. We expect this project to be funded using Federal and/or State funds.
