Nearly 10 years ago, Mr. Louis Maxfield donated approx. 65 acres of land on Rte 5 to the Town of Hartford. It was his wish that this property be developed to provide future generations with educational and recreational opportunities.
In keeping with his desires, the Town developed a Master Plan for the property reflecting the most efficient utilization of the available land. The result has been the design of an outdoors sports venue supported by a number of service buildings for concessions, group activities, parking and recreation equipment storage, etc.
As one might imagine, development of this nature is not without its costs. With Mr. Maxfields support, the Town is actively negotiating the possible sale of approx. 10 acres of this land to the Army Corps of Engineers. This land will support the development of a 60,000 sq.ft. regional training center for the U.S. Army Reserves and the National Guard.
The proceeds from this sale will be used to develop a significant portion of the property in accordance with the Master Plan. We look forward to the completion of this project in the summer of 2010 and thank Mr. Maxfield for his commitment to our community and future generations throughout the Upper Valley.
