Q. Tax base

What has happen to the tax base in the community of hartford,vt
A. Since the 2007 townwide reappraisal, generally, values have declined by 5-10%. In some areas, such as Quechee Lakes, and in a few other condo complexes, the declines have been more significant.

Q. permit for backyard campfire?

Hello, Is a permit required to have a small contained fire in a backyard fire pit? I live in Wilder. This would be for later this summer. I realize the conditions are very dry right now and fires are definitely not a good idea. Thank you, Charlie Spina

Where can I find information on backyard chicken laws? I live on Jericho St. and would like to start a small flock but wonder about the rules for that area. Thank you!

Q. veterans exemption for real estate taxes

does Hartford have a veterans exemption on real estate taxes

Q. Residential Sand

My husband has attempted to get a couple of pails of sand at the Quechee wastewater facility twice and has found the area locked. Is this no longer available to Hartford residents?

Q. Leash Law

My understanding is there is a leash law in Hartford. If this is the case how do I deal with a dog that is defecating on my lawn several times a week - apparently it is NOT on a leash.

Q. Rt. 132 Reopening?

Any idea when Rt. 132 in Sharon will open? The detour is awful ... dangerous (I've almost been hit by an oncoming car around a blind corner about 5 times now), bumpy and not well grated, and so far out of my way which costs extra gas money.
A. That is a great question, unfortunately, this is not a Town of Hartford project. Our Department of Public Works, Highway Superintendent believes that the Town of Sharon (802) 763-8268 or VTRANS (802) 828-2657, may be able to answer this question for you. Good luck!
