What is the Green Mountain RSVP & Volunteer Center?

This non-profit organization matches volunteers, age 55 and over, with meaningful work at other non-profits, schools, libraries, hospitals and towns. We presently manage 1,059 volunteers at 234 worksites in the three southern Vermont counties. The volunteers work as literacy tutors for adults, leaders of exercise classes for seniors, companions to elders living alone, and in hospitals, schools, museums and libraries. Whatever your experience, RSVP has a position for you. The time given can be an hour a week, or 40 hours – whatever works with your schedule. Sometimes volunteers work on a project, with a beginning and an end, so that they can travel and not feel tied down to a certain job each week. The work being done by volunteers in the three counties saves non-profits close to one million dollars a year. Studies show that seniors who volunteer live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Our sponsor is the Green Mountain Community Network whose CEO, Donna Baker, has overseen GMRSVP since 1996. In 2006, RSVP of Bennington County merged with the RSVP offices in Windham and Windsor Counties, so that the organization now coordinates volunteer work throughout southern Vermont.
