Audit Information / Reports

Independent Audit Information

The Town engages an independent accounting firm to audit our financial statements each year. The audit is designed to ensure that the Town's financial statements present fairly the financial position of the Town and the results of its operations and cash flows in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles. The audit includes examining, on a test basis, evidence supporting the amounts and financial disclosures included in those financial statements. It also includes assessing the accounting principles used and any significant estimates made by management, as well as evaluating the overall financial statement presentation. The auditors also test compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements, as well as assess the internal control over accounting procedures.

Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports (CAFR)

The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) is designed to provide residents with additional information not found in the annual Audit Report. This additional information includes, among other things, background information for the Town, the environment in which it operates, local economy information, demographic information, and multi-year trend information.

Each year the CAFR is submitted to the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) CAFR Award Program. The CAFR is reviewed to ensure it contains all necessary information and that it is accurately and correctly put together. If the applicable criteria are met the Town receives a "Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting." This is a nationally recognized and esteemed award. The Town received this award for its fiscal year 2012, 2013, and 2014 CAFRs.
