Accreditation
HistoryThe Hartford Fire Department received its initial accreditation in 2004 and was re-accredited in 2009, 2014 and 2019 through the Commission of Fire Accreditation International. Our department was the first municipal fire department to receive accreditation in New England and is 2 of less than 225 nationwide to reach this milestone.
Accreditation assists in improving fire and emergency service agencies through a strategic self-assessment model and advanced strategic planning. The accreditation process helps to provide continuous quality improvement and enhancement of service delivered to the community.
Process
The Commission of Fire Accreditation International process provides a well-defined, internationally recognized benchmark system used to measure the delivery of fire and emergency services to a community.
Accreditation status is valid for 5 years only, and the Department is currently addressing the recommendations of the peer assessors who performed a site visit in 2019. While accreditation is challenging, the benefits are tremendous. The members of the Hartford Fire Department are extremely proud of our accomplishments and the challenges accreditation brings.
